§ 12-17. Chief.

  • The chief of the fire department shall be the executive head of the fire department, subject to the direction and supervision of the city manager as chief executive officer of the city. The fire chief shall have management of the department, and shall have the power to appoint, remove, or suspend all employees in their respective departments pursuant to V.T.C.A. Local Government Code, ch. 143, Municipal Civil Service. The fire chief shall be appointed by the city manager, by and with the consent of the city council. The fire chief shall report directly to the city manager or deputy city manager. The fire chief shall be properly qualified for the duties of the office, and shall be removed only for cause.
