§ 25-64. State licenses; exceptions.

  • (a)

    Master plumber. No master plumber shall engage in the business of plumbing in the city until he has previously obtained a master plumber's license issued by the state board of plumbing examiners. Such license shall be on file at the plumbing inspector's office together with the firm's address and telephone number, before proceeding with any plumbing contract.

    (b)

    Journeyman plumber. No journeyman plumber shall engage in or carry on the business of plumbing or do any plumbing within the city unless he has obtained a journeyman plumber's license issued by the state board of plumbing examiners. Any journeyman plumber not residing within the city and whose license number is not on file in the plumbing inspector's office before engaging in any plumbing work within the city will be subject to punishment as provided in section 1-6 of this Code.

    (c)

    Exceptions. The licensing provision of this chapter shall not apply to any person performing plumbing work with his own hands in a building owned by him or to any person exempt under the state licensing law of 1947. The above-referenced persons shall obtain the necessary permit for such repairs or installation and shall have all work inspected by the proper authority of the city plumbing inspection department. Appliance installations and service work done by anyone who is an appliance dealer or is a full-time employee of an appliance dealer may be done without a plumbing license; however, all work and service herein named or referenced to shall be subject to permit fees, inspection and approval as provided for in this chapter.
