§ 11-1. Definitions.

  • The following words and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall, for the purpose of this chapter, have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section, unless a different meaning is plainly required by the content:

    Approved or approval shall mean approved by the city electrical inspector section and such approval shall be based upon the standard and requirement set forth in the National Electrical Code with modification set forth by this article.

    Authorized person shall mean an individual or authorized representative of a firm or corporation who is currently licensed under the provisions of this chapter to do the work as permitted under the specific provisions of this chapter.

    Electrical construction shall mean and include all work and material used in installing, maintaining and extending a system of electrical wiring and all appurtenances, apparatus and equipment used in connection therewith, inside of or attached to any building or structure, lots or premises.

    Electrical contracting shall mean the business of designing, installing, erecting, repairing, or altering electrical wiring or conductors to be used for lights, heating, power, or signing purposes. The term includes the installation or repair of ducts, raceways, or conduits for the reception or protection of wires of conductors and the installation or repairs of any electrical machinery, apparatus, or system used for electrical light, heat, power, or signing.

    Electrician shall mean a person who is engaged in the work of electrical construction, maintenance, or repair and who is qualified under the terms and provisions of this chapter.

    Master electrician shall mean and include any person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of, or holding himself or itself out to the public as engaged in the business of installing, repairing or contracting to install or repair, wires, conductors, and equipment used within or on buildings for the utilization of electrical current for electric lights, heat, power, or signaling purposes, together with the fitting of same, necessary for the protection of such wires, conductors, and equipment.

    Permit shall mean building permit (electrical).

    Registered shall means that a person who has made application to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations and has satisfied the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations that he is qualified to do the work stated in the applications; that he has paid the necessary registration fees to date and that the electrician has a valid electrical license; and that his name is carried in the records of the department of building development services as a person authorized to do electrical work as defined in this chapter.

    Registered electrician shall mean that a person who has made application to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations and has satisfied the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations that he is qualified to do the work stated in the applications; has a valid electrical license; and has submitted a complete state electrical license registration form to the building development services department as a person authorized to do electrical work as defined in this chapter.

    Re-inspection shall mean conducting or performing a third inspection after two (2) previous inspections were disapproved. Fee shall be paid in full prior to conducting re-inspection.

    State electrical license registration form shall mean a form provided by the building development services department for which no fee is required and shall be renewed annually in order to obtain permits in the city.
