§ 15-17. Duties of the director—Generally.
The director shall perform or cause to be performed the following duties:
(1)
Administer and enforce the provisions of this article with regard to air pollution control.
(2)
Request that judicial proceedings be instituted to prosecute persons violating the provisions of this article, and to compel the prevention and abatement of air pollution and nuisances arising therefrom.
(3)
Investigate complaints of violations of this article, make inspections of sources and ambient air conditions and maintain a record of the investigations, complaints, inspections, and observations.
(4)
Encourage voluntary cooperation by persons and by affected groups in the preservation and regulation of purity of the outdoor atmosphere.
(5)
Collect and disseminate information to the general public on air pollution.
(6)
Work with planning and zoning agencies for the purpose of coordinating activities under the provisions of this article with planning and zoning activities, and foster the best possible management of the air resources of the city.
(7)
Cooperate and work with the federal, state, and local governmental agencies concerned with air pollution problems.
