§ 8-3. Portion of cemetery dedicated to use of Catholic Church; conveyance; subdivision.

  • (a)

    All that portion of the tract of land embraced within the metes and bounds as set forth in section 8-1 of this chapter and lying west of Meadow Street or Avenue, as now designated on the map or plat of the City of Laredo is hereby set aside and dedicated to the use of the Catholic Church of the city for cemetery purposes only, subject however to the reasonable sanitary regulations of the city council; provided, however, that nothing in this chapter shall be construed to prevent the erection, maintenance and use, of a chapel for religious worship by such church, on such tract of land, in addition to its use for cemetery purposes.

    (b)

    The mayor and city secretary are hereby authorized and instructed, to execute a deed of conveyance of the premises described in paragraph (a) of this section to the Right Rev. Bishop Peter Verdaquer and his successors in office in trust, for the use of the Catholic Church of the city for cemetery purposes. Subject however, to the reasonable sanitary regulations of the city council as provided in paragraph (a) of this section.

    (c)

    The trustee, and his successors in trust, as provided in paragraph (b) of this section, shall have the right and authority to subdivide the tract or parcel of land described in paragraph (a) of this section into family, individual and such other burial lots, as may be desired, and to establish and maintain such carriage and driveways and walks or ways for pedestrians as may be necessary and essential for its use, maintenance and convenience as a cemetery as hereinbefore provided; also to sell and convey to private individuals, subject to the provisions of this chapter, such burial lots, and to collect and receive the purchase price thereof.
